Season 3Champion: Sherwood Park SyndicateSea. Record Playoff Record General Manager ------------ -------------- --------------- 45-35-4 12-6-0 Gord Mcqueen The third SHL season was filled with controversy. After expanding to 16 teams the free agent market exploded. Stars like Smehlik signed for 3.8 million, while lesser known players were signing for a few million a piece. The Snipers and the Wolves were the big spenders, both boosting to have the best team in the SHL. But Gord McQueen, voted to be the GM of the year, made it happen. After a poor showing in the first half of the season, McQueen made some key trades that got his team rolling. They were in third place in their four team division for the first half, but Syndicate shot up into first with only 30 games left in the season. They were neither impressive offensively nor defensively, but they got the job done, and finished 4th in the league. One of the new faces to the Syndicate was Dale Hunter, season 1 play-off MVP. The trade for Hunter proved to be the ultimate genious of Gord McQueen. Dale Hunter hungry for his second championship ring, but it wasn't as easy as it was the first time around with the Frost. The WildCats were handled easily in four games, but the Snipers were next, the best team in the SHL's regular season. Syndicate won the 7th game to go on and face one of the more consistent teams, the Ravens. The back-and-forth action was unbelievable. Almost every game was close. In the seventh deciding and deciding game it was Dale Hunter who scored the game tying goal to make it 3 to 3, and finally the game/series/championship winner in over-time. Gord McQueen proved his genius, putting together a great team midseason, and getting the play-off sensation Dale Hunter.
