ABOUT THE SHL ![]() |
INTRODUCING THE SHLNow in its 12th exciting season, the SHL is one of the Internet's longest running and most successful leagues. From negotiating with player agents, to setting your lines for an upcoming game against your division rivals, the SHL offers one of the most realistic hockey experiences without having to buy a professional franchise. Our key is to travel the line of realism and realism (that is, the realism of a professional hockey league, and the realistic expectations of a hockey league that exists only in the minds of people, and in the data of the computer). We use HLS2 to simulate games, but we have also written our own utilities and rules that make this league better. The SHL fully incorporates ages, contracts, and junior drafts, while adding other elements such as player agents. If you're having doubts at how real the SHL can be, just look at our history. We have a Hall of Fame, career GM records, and even career player records! This is the real experience of hockey, and that's not even getting into the financial aspect of running a hockey team. Money is important, especially with our free agency rules, where the players make money, and where the GMs feel a pinch in their cheque book. How do you make money? You must promote your team through news articles. As GM, it's your responsibility to set the ticket prices, not too high or few will pay, but not too low, or you'll be selling your team short. Then you promote your team so the fans know who you are, and that's when they start coming to see your games. This is where we say, this league isn't for everyone. We require our GMs to write professional articles, inform the league about their team, and to write general articles about the league. Best of all, when we talk about money, we're talking about the SHL Currency, which doesn't take a cent out of your pocket book. It takes a lot of people to run this league and make it a success and that most especially includes the GMs. Not everyone is SHL material. You want to see what we do? Join the SHL mailing list. Spots are limited in this league, but while you wait for a team, you can always participate by being an assistant GM or a player agent. For information on that, mail the SHL Head Office |
